April Update!

Hello everyone!

I hope you’re all doing well! I realise I haven’t updated my blog since way back in February for hourly comic day which is inexcusable! So I’m not going to make any excuses, I’ll just let you know what I’ve been up to over the past few months.

Well, pretty much the day after I last updated the blog one of my favourite actors passed away; Philip Seymour Hoffman. I’d actually always meant to do a picture of or about him so it just seemed right to pay a little tribute. The quote here’s from the film ‘Happiness’ and the style is inspired by Daniel Clowes’ film poster for the same film.

In fact later on that month another one of my film heroes passed away, Mr.Harold Ramis. Those who know me probably know I’ve always had an obsession with Ghostbusters since a very early age. In fact I’ve got some the toys displayed in my room as well as a big Ecto-1 canvas I painted that I wouldn’t part with. Again, I wanted to do a little something so I thought I’d do another little portrait, I really never draw real things or people (and it shows) but I tried my best.

Anyways let’s talk about something else! I’ve also been making some new prints, including this happy sloth!

This observation of the relationship between the heart and the head.

And this illustration about how I want a holiday.

And some other bits and bobs you can see in my shop.  I also got over my fear of public speaking, I did a talk at Laydeez Do Comics yearly meet up and gave a talk about my work and inspirations then did a Q&A which I think actually went really well! Here’s an illustration by Heather Middleton of what me and the other guest talkers, Kat Lombard Cook and Morag Kewell were saying

Over the past few months I’ve also been working fairly regularly on my comics. A lot of people have been asking about Dungeon Fun 2 and you’ll be glad to know it’s in the works it’s just taking a while to get done but we (me and Colin Bell) are aiming for a July release in line with Glasgow Comic Con. I can’t really show much just now but I am allowed to show the odd panel such as this.

I’ve also been working on my third and last travelogue which’ll be set in Bordeaux in France. I was actually there last May  and started work on it soon after but after a while I got really excited about my Astronomers Journal book so it got put on the proverbial shelf. Then came Dungeon Fun and the Suave book and all the commissions and cons etc but I’m making a point of finishing it for this summer and bringing a nice end to the travelogue story. Here’s a little page.

Oh! I was also in a short student documentary about comics, which you can see below. Please note, the camera has added a million pounds to my face.

Apart from that I’ve just been doing the odd stall and comic market and working hard on commissions. Although I don’t really talk about commissions much they do make up a big part of my work load. I actually had a cool moment last week where I was going to the pub in Dundee after Dee Con and saw one of my illustrations on a phone box!

Anyways that’s me up until now, I’ll be updating more as my new comics start coming out in the next few months. As always, thanks for reading and have a lovely day!

Oh and for slightly more regular updates be sure to like my Facebook Page and follow me on Twitter or Tumblr.
