Modern Slorance – my New Book!

Hey Everyone! Hope you’re all well!

Exciting news this month, I’ve brought a new book out!

Modern Slorance is something I’ve been wanting to do for a long time. It’s a collection of short comic strips, mostly autobio, about things that interest me. So, there’s bits about video games, board games, also some diary stuff about dating etc.

I worked really hard on it and I hope you guys like it! Here’s the cover.

And while you’re here, here’s one of the short strips: this one’s about my relationship with video games.

The full book is available from my Etsy shop here

Until next time, take care!

March Update!

Hey everyone, hope you’re all doing good!

I’m going to do my best to try and back get into a regular blogging habit, one post a month shouldn’t be too hard right? :/

So what’ve I been up to? Ah y’know the usual. Comics n that. I had the pleasure of attending Dunfermline Comic Con this month. A Convention in it’s first year, of course you wouldn’t know that because how swell it went and how well it was organised.

I also had the pleasure of designing a limited edition Doctor Who comic cover exclusive to the convention!

I still can’t quite believe I draw Doctor Who covers (sometimes).

My thinking here was a lot to do with Dunfermline’s strong connection with Robert the Bruce who was buried in Dunfermline Abbey. Well his body is, his heart’s in Melrose.

It was also a great day on a more personal level. It was run by the Little Shop of Heroes which is a family run local comic shop in Dunfermline. I’ve known the family for a good while and always love popping into the shop or doing a signing etc when I can. It was so sweet seeing the convention grow from an idea to a fully fledged sold out event. Give us a wave guys!

Also in the past month I made a strip I was pretty happy with. This was for the Sad Ghost Club.

SGC

It was a little idea I had floating about and just thought it would totally suit the Sad Ghost Club.  SGC is a small creative group spreading positive awareness of mental health and self care. I’ve been a fan of their artwork and zines for the past 2 years-ish so it was a huge honour to be able to contribute some work. It was also just kind of sweet to be working on something just as a personal project with no time constraints as it gives me a chance to fart about with it.

Also in the news, me and Colin have a strip in the new 12th Doctor Doctor Who comic which is out tomorrow!

I’m really happy with how the strip turned out but understandably I can’t really show much more without spoiling it for people :/

Well I think that’s it for this month.

If you’d like to keep up me all my social media links are over here

Take care,

Neil

September Update!

Hello everyone, hope you’re all doing well!

Although it pains me that I don’t blog as much as I did in the past I think I’d like to stick to monthly updates as I quite like the format and gives me the chance to show off the highlights of my month.

First and foremost me and Colin brought out the Dungeon Fun collected edition! The chunky and very nicely sized book collects issues #1-4 of Dungeon Fun and it’s available from my shop. Let’s take a look!

I also made a new cover which wraps all the way round. See below.

Also this month I was happy to take part in the Star Wars in Glasgow exhibition which is up in the Variety Bar on Sauchiehall St until October 22nd.

I’ve always been a massive Star Wars fan so when I was asked to participate I couldn’t say so. My main piece was a print of some of my favourite Star Wars droids. Not necessarily the most popular droids but equally important, i think.

I also made a few illustrations of some of the better known characters including some I’m really looking forward to getting to know.

Well that’s about it for this update, for the rest of the year i’ll be appearing at these cons.

MCM London Royal Victoria Dock 23rd-25th October

Aghast! an August update!

Hey! How’re you? How long’s it been? May? Well…that’s embarrassing.

Okay let’s have a wee catch up. Most of June and July were crunch time, by which I mean I’d pretty much locked myself up until Dungeon 4 got finished. And we got there; it took a lot of work and it turned out to be a double issue (50+ pages) but we got there and I’m super proud of it. I think my art’s came along quite a bit since the first issue which comes across in bigger pages like this.

Oh I also had the pleasure of doing this years poster for Glasgow Comic Con!

GCCA3

Dungeon Fun 4 is available from my shop as well as Dungeon Fun 3. I’m afraid issues 1 and 2 are out of print and pretty hard to come by but for those intrigued to start at the start there will be a collected edition coming out in a month or so.

So, a question I get a lot now is ‘What’s next?’ and that’s a good question. In all honesty I’m not too sure. There are a few opportunities that may or may not arise from Dungeon Fun but failing that I’d like do another solo book, maybe about tortoises or something. Me and Colin will definitely keep working together and at the very least have a new book for next year. I’d also like to just draw more, funny stuff, silly stuff, just drawing for the sake of drawing and trying to get a bit better.

Also I’ve been working hard on the Doctor Who strip me and Colin do. It comes out every month in the Doctor Who Twelfth Doctor comic and we’re having tons of fun doing it.

I might also have some big Doctor Who news in the next few months but at the moment I’m afraid I can’t really say much about it!

And that’s me for now! For Conventions I’ll be at the following:

MCM Scotland Glasgow SECC. 26th and 27th of September.

The Lakes Comic Art Festival – Kendal. October 17th and 18th

MCM London Royal Victoria Dock 23rd-25th October

Thought Bubble Leeds Royal Armouries. November 14th and 15th.

Hope to see some familiar faces at these!

Talk soon,

Neil
